Leads and Error Codes

ConnectedWorkshop helps VW workshops act proactively by highlighting vehicles that require attention before the customer experiences a breakdown.

Leads, warning lamps, and error codes allow you to prioritise the right vehicles, contact customers at the right time, and plan workshop capacity more effectively.

Where to find Leads and Error Codes

From the left-hand navigation, select Leads & Error codes:

You will see several categories, including:

  • Warning lamps
  • User-reported lamps
  • Low 12V battery
  • Disconnected units
  • Error codes

Each category shows vehicles that may require follow-up.

Warning lamps

The Warning lamps view shows vehicles where a dashboard warning lamp has been detected, such as an engine warning lamp.

For each vehicle, you can see:

  • Vehicle model and model year
  • Warning lamp category
  • First time the lamp was registered
  • Last time the lamp was registered
  • Odometer reading
  • Assigned employee, if any

You can filter the list by:

Time period, for example last 30 days Status, such as open or closed Search by vehicle

This helps workshops focus on currently relevant issues, not historical ones.

User-reported lamps

User-reported lamps are issues reported directly by the driver or customer rather than detected automatically.

These leads are useful when:

  • The customer notices an issue before a system detects it
  • The issue is intermittent or not linked to a specific fault code

They should be reviewed and handled in the same proactive way as warning lamps.

Low 12V battery

This view highlights vehicles where low 12V battery voltage has been detected.

Low battery voltage can:

  • Trigger warning lamps
  • Cause vehicles to stop sending data
  • Lead to starting issues for the customer

These leads are especially relevant for vehicles with short trips or long idle periods.

Disconnected units

Disconnected units indicate vehicles where no data has been received for a longer period than expected. Click on the events column to view the information for this error:

Common reasons include:

  • Vehicle not being driven
  • Privacy settings
  • Hardware or installation issues

These leads help identify vehicles that may require technical follow-up rather than customer contact.

Error codes

The Error codes view provides deeper technical insight based on ECU data collected from the vehicle.

Error codes are grouped by severity:

Permanent

Permanent error codes are present during the latest trip and are currently active in the vehicle.

These typically require follow-up.

Sporadic

Sporadic error codes have occurred multiple times recently but were not present during the latest trip.

They may indicate intermittent issues.

Potential

Potential error codes indicate conditions that may lead to future problems.

They are useful for identifying issues early, even if the customer has not noticed symptoms yet.

Filtering and status

You can filter leads and error codes by:

  • Time period Status, open or closed
  • Most recently or least recently detected

An item may automatically move from open to closed if:

  • The issue is no longer detected
  •  Data has not been received for a longer period

Closed items remain visible for reference but do not require action.

Assigning responsibility

You can assign a user to a vehicle to indicate who is responsible for handling:

  • Customer contact
  • Follow-up Service planning

This is optional but recommended to ensure clear ownership within the workshop team.

Good to know

  • Not all vehicles support the same level of data
  • Warning lamps and error codes depend on vehicle model, year, and connectivity type
  • Leads support proactive service planning and are not a replacement for diagnostic testing
