Error Codes and Diagnostics

When a vehicle is equipped with a CC-Link unit, your workshop gains access to remote diagnostic data, including ECU error codes. This means you can see what’s wrong with a vehicle before it arrives at your workshop, allowing you to work more efficiently and provide proactive support to fleet customers.

This feature is especially useful for users who are managing large commercial fleets and want to maintain uptime and avoid unexpected breakdowns.

Benefits of Remote Access to Error Codes

1. Faster Diagnosis

You don’t need to plug into the vehicle physically. When an issue is detected, you can:

  • See error codes in real time
  • Assess the severity of the problem
  • Understand what parts may be needed before the vehicle arrives

2. Proactive Customer Support

Your team can:

  • Notify fleet managers when a vehicle reports a critical issue
  • Recommend booking a service based on actual problems
  • Reduce downtime for the fleet by acting early

3. Efficient Workshop Planning

With visibility across the fleet:

  • Prioritise vehicles with permanent or recurring issues
  • Avoid time lost on diagnosis after the car arrives
  • Prepare parts and mechanics in advance

4. Smarter Campaigns

Use error data to identify patterns:

  • Frequent particulate filter issues? Offer a cleaning service campaign.
  • Multiple battery or brake issues? Plan preventive checks.
  • A/C error codes across vehicles? Promote seasonal maintenance services.

Where to Find the Error Codes

In ConnectedWorkshop, go to the Leads tab and open the Diagnostics section. This gives you an overview of all error codes detected by CC-Link units installed in vehicles your workshop is responsible for.

You’ll see:

  • A list of error codes
  • The vehicle they came from
  • How frequent or severe they are
  • Which ECU (Electronic Control Unit) they were read from

Understanding the Badges

Each error code is shown with a badge so you can quickly identify how serious it is:

These badges are especially helpful when reviewing multiple vehicles across a fleet, and they are visible both in the Error codes section and individual vehicle views:

Filter and Search Options

You can filter the data by:

  • Severity (e.g. Permanent only)
  • Date (24h, 48h, 7 days, 30 days, or All)
  • Status (Open or Closed)
  • Specific ECUs VIN, license plate, or error code name

This makes it easy to stay on top of issues and take the right action, especially when managing multiple vehicles under Connect Pro.

Remote access to ECU error codes helps your workshop:

  • Work faster
  • Support fleets more proactively
  • Plan ahead and reduce downtime
  • Offer smarter, data-based campaigns

By using the Diagnostics view in ConnectedWorkshop, you can turn error codes into real service actions, and better support your VW customers.
