This article explains how to configure fleet data tracking preferences during your initial system onboarding and details how the Always-on feature maintains the diagnostic syncing between platforms.
Pre-Check :
If a vehicle is experiencing connectivity issues or data gaps with an installed CC-Link device, the fault may not be hardware-related. Before performing physical diagnostics, verify the fleet's cloud settings in the portal. If Always-on mode is deactivated, a driver may have manually toggled the vehicle offline via the cabin display screen, cutting off all telemetry transmission. Ensure Always-on mode is activated to automatically override cabin privacy settings.
Introduction to Always-on Mode
When you log in to Connect Pro for the first time, you are prompted to set your global fleet tracking preferences. You have the option to grant consent for all vehicles in your fleet to always remain online, bypassing manual privacy modifications made inside the vehicle cabins.
Activating Always-on mode prevents drivers or temporary users from switching vehicles completely offline. This ensures that essential vehicle telemetry, real-time location data, and maintenance fault logs are securely transmitted to your ConnectedWorkshop and Connect Pro dashboards at all times.
Hardware Generation
The operational impact of your Always-on setting depends entirely on the hardware module generation installed in the vehicle. Because different generations handle driver privacy overrides uniquely, please refer to our dedicated hardware guides for specific system responses:
To review tracking behaviour for older or standard fleet modules, read: Managing Privacy and Tracking Settings for MOD 3 Vehicles.
To review tracking behaviour for next-generation fleet modules, read: Managing Privacy and Tracking Settings for MOD 4 Vehicles.
Step 2: Managing Privacy and Tracking Settings for MOD 3 Vehicles
This article details how Always-on mode interacts with the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) display settings inside vehicles equipped with MOD 3 telematics hardware.
Always-on Activated (Fleet Manager Preference)
When the fleet manager enables Always-on mode in the Connect Pro portal, the system enforces continuous data harvesting.
Data Transmission: Connect Pro continuously receives all vehicle telemetry, including precise GPS location coordinates, regardless of the privacy selections modified inside the cabin.
In-Vehicle Display Behaviour: The on-screen infotainment display (HMI) in the vehicle is not blocked or overridden by the cloud setting. If a driver adjusts the screen to read “No position data”, the screen will reflect that visual state. However, this setting has no actual influence on the hardware; the device completely bypasses the display choice and continues transmitting live data to the fleet manager.
Always-on Deactivated (Driver Control Permitted)
If the fleet manager chooses to leave Always-on mode deactivated, data privacy control is handed over to the vehicle operator.
Driver Autonomy: The driver can actively deactivate vehicle tracking or switch the vehicle completely offline using the on-screen menu.
Operational Impact: If a driver switches the vehicle offline, no data is transmitted to Connect Pro. Telemetry, live tracking, and diagnostic reporting will cease entirely until the driver toggles the vehicle online again.
Core Functions: While live tracking is disabled, standard regional backup features (such as standard VW Connect and localised emergency assistance functions) remain accessible on the display network.
Live Fleet Management Features
The fleet management platform allows for granular control over your vehicle assets. Fleet managers can split their vehicles into custom operational groups and decide whether to enable or enable Always-on mode on a group-by-group basis.
Step 3: Managing Privacy and Tracking Settings for MOD 4 Vehicles
This article details how Always-on mode interacts with the privacy toggles and system settings inside vehicles equipped with next-generation MOD 4 telematics hardware.
Always-on Activated (System Lockdown)
When the fleet manager enables Always-on mode for MOD 4 hardware, the system enforces a strict programmatic lockdown on the vehicle's privacy menus to protect fleet tracking integrity.
Data Transmission: Connect Pro continuously receives all usage and GPS location data.
In-Vehicle Display Behaviour: The privacy toggle switches on the in-vehicle touchscreen are completely blocked and greyed out. The driver is physically prevented from modifying the settings or sliding the toggles. The text on the screen explicitly locks to “Send and receive data (online mode)”, ensuring total visibility and compliance.
Always-on Deactivated (Dynamic Interface)
If the fleet manager leaves Always-on mode deactivated on MOD 4 hardware, the vehicle's interactive privacy menus remain fully unlocked and adjustable.
Driver Autonomy: The driver can interact with the touch menu to selectively toggle Vehicle/usage data or Send location data on or off.
Operational Impact: If the driver toggles these options off, all data transmission to Connect Pro is suspended. The vehicle will appear offline in the fleet management portal until the switches are manually re-enabled.
System Reflection: Because the menus are not blocked, the interface switches accurately reflect the true data transmission state of the vehicle at any given second.
Live Fleet Management Features
The fleet management platform allows for granular control over your vehicle assets. Fleet managers can split their vehicles into custom operational groups and decide whether to enable or enable Always-on mode on a group-by-group basis.
Troubleshooting
If connection issue cannot be resolved via the always-on mode, the device installation must be physically inspected at the workshop. Technicians must follow the structured diagnostic flow chart to isolate the hardware fault before the case can be escalated.
