ConnectedWorkshop helps workshops stay ahead of vehicle issues by providing real-time diagnostics and lead tracking directly from CC-Link devices. This means you can act before customers even realise there’s a problem. Leads are visible both in the general Leads & Error Codes overview and directly on the vehicle details page.
Working with leads proactively helps you build trust and loyalty, reduce repair time, and prevent expensive breakdowns for your customers. This article explains how each type of lead works and how to follow up effectively.
Types of Leads
1. Warning Lamps (Engine and Other Dashboard Lamps)
These are automatically generated by CC-Link when a dashboard warning lamp is detected in the vehicle. The user is notified in their Connect App, and the lead appears both in the overview and on the vehicle’s profile.
You can:
- See the lead in the Warning Lamps tab under Leads & Error Codes
- Manually close or reopen the lead
- Assign yourself or a colleague
- Send a message to the customer to schedule a visit
Example message to customer:
We’ve detected a warning lamp in your vehicle. We recommend scheduling a check-up to ensure everything is running safely. Let us know what time works for you.
Auto-close logic:
A warning lamp lead automatically closes if:
- The engine runs continuously for at least 15 minutes
- Or the vehicle is started 4 separate times without the lamp appearing again
2. User Reported Lamps
These are added manually by the driver via their Connect App. It could be that the driver saw a lamp that later disappeared or something they are unsure about.
You can:
- See these under User Reported Lamps
- Assign someone to follow up
- Send a helpful message to the customer
Example message to customer:
Thanks for reporting the issue. We’re ready to help. Would you like to book a time so we can take a closer look?
Manual closure:
These leads can only be closed manually by the workshop or the customer.
3. Low 12V Battery Voltage
A battery lead is created if the vehicle has been driven in the last 7 days but still has an average battery voltage under 11.7V while parked. This suggests the battery is not holding charge well and could cause problems.
In the lead, you can:
- View battery voltage trends
- Click on the icons to see the 7-day graph
- Assign follow-up Send battery replacement suggestions
Example message to customer:
We’ve noticed your battery voltage is consistently low. We recommend stopping by the workshop for a quick battery health check. This helps prevent future breakdowns.
Auto-close logic:
The lead will close automatically once the 7-day voltage average rises above 11.7V again.
4. Disconnected Units
This lead appears when the CC-Link device loses its power source. It could be due to disconnection, power loss, or improper installation.
You can:
- View this under Disconnected Units
- See historical events by clicking the number of disconnections
- Assign follow-up
- Send a check-up invite to the customer
Example message to customer:
It looks like your CC-Link device has lost power. Feel free to stop by and we’ll double-check the installation for free.
Auto-close logic:
This lead closes automatically when the unit regains power and reconnects.
5. Error Codes
Error codes are detected from the vehicle’s ECU via the CC-Link device and are grouped into three types:
- Permanent: The fault is active
- Sporadic: The fault occurred but is not constant
- Potential: A possible issue has been detected
In the Error Codes tab, you can:
- Sort by severity or ECU Filter by time (24h, 48h, 7d, 30d, or All)
- View qualified descriptions of each code
You can also use these codes to suggest relevant services to the customer, especially if they are related to known issues like particulate filters, air conditioning, or sensor failures.
Viewing and Filtering Leads
All lead types are accessible via the Leads & Error Codes section in the left menu. You can filter leads by:
- Type (e.g. warning lamps, user-reported, low battery)
- Status (open or closed)
- Time period Severity (for error codes)
This lets you prioritise vehicles that need urgent service or plan follow-ups with customers more efficiently.
Estimated Revenue Column
Some leads display an Estimated Revenue value. This shows how much the service job is worth, based on importer-set standard labour hours and service types. It helps your team prioritise high-value opportunities and track workshop performance.
VW Users
If you’re servicing Volkswagen fleets, remember:
- Fleets must go through OBID consent before vehicles are fully active
- Some error codes and service logic may be tied to VW-specific data fields
- Consent-related delays can affect data visibility, including for leads
Make sure to check the Consent status and verify that the vehicle is fully connected before acting on leads or booking a service.
